TPSI3050: TPSI3050(S) driving SCR

Part Number: TPSI3050

Hi,

I am trying to use the TPSI3050S to drive the SCR in a controlled rectifier application, but the TPSI's internal DC/DC converter does not have enough power to maintain the output pulses all the time, turning the pulses off and on periodically.

Can TPSI3050S be used to drive an SCR directly?

Thanks,

 Ari

  • Hi Ari,

The TPSI3050S can certainly be used to drive SCRs. However, there is a limit to the amount of power transfer/available on the VDRV pin during the pulse period. In addition, there is a certain amount of time needed between bursts to ensure there is enough power available to turn on the SCR.

Can you help me understand the frequency you are toggling the EN pin at and the amount of trigger current needed for the SCR to turn on (part number of SCR would help as well)? Also, do you have a schematic of the setup to help further get an idea of how the device is being used and setup (CDIV1/CDIV2 caps/loadings)?

    Thanks!

    Bryan
