TPS546D24A: MSEL1 Switching frequency

Part Number: TPS546D24A

Hi,

We are using a TPS546D24A device based on Tables 7-8. MSEL1 Divider Code for Programming. The switching frequency is set at 325KHz using code 3 (Resistor value 42.2K ), but when we measured it was 550KHz.

We have simulated in TI web bench with  42.2K pull-up and 5.62L pull-down resistor, and the switching frequency is 325KHz. Could you please clarify why simulated and measured switching frequencies are not matching?

Gajendiran A

  • Hi Gajendiran,

We noticed the combination 42.2kΩ for Rmsel1t and 5.62kΩ for Rmsel1b, as shown in Table 7-8, is not valid. As a result, the switching frequency defaults to 550kHz.

If you obtained this design from WEBENCH, please share it with us so that we can report the issue to the WEBENCH team and get it fixed.

In the meantime, please refer to the datasheet and change the Rmsel1 resistor combination.

For 325kHz, some valid combinations are:

    • Rmsel1t = 42.2kΩ and Rmsel1b = 21.5kΩ
    • Rmsel1t = 11.0kΩ and Rmsel1b = 5.62kΩ

We also provide an Excel design calculator to help you with pintrap selections. You can download it from the following link: https://www.ti.com/tool/download/SLURB01

    Thank you,
    Tomoya
