REF6050: frequency response for REF6050

Part Number: REF6050
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS8862, REF6025EVM-PDK, REF6025

Dear Technical Support Team,

My configuration is ADS8862+REF6050.

There is CL+RESR(REF6050 DS shows 5mΩ+47uF) on output OUT_F/S .

I refer the REF6025EVM-PDK.

It has 47uF + 0Ω. it looks like a combination both 47uF itself ESR and 0Ω(a few mΩ).

Question:

What value of ESR of the CL is required on frequency response?

What is the minimum value?

REF6025EVM-PDK

ADS8862 DS

  • Hello ttd,

The capacitor characteristics as well as PCB trace length can affect the ESR of a capacitor. Therefore, in some instances, a discrete resistor may not be necessary. Please refer to section 9.3.4 of the REF60xx datasheet for more guidelines:

As seen in figure 53, there is a range of ESR values that correspond with the capacitance value which would allow for stable operation of REF6025. Depending on the output capacitance you choose, REF6025 can be stable from as low as 5 mΩ (47µF) or 20 mΩ (10µF) to as high as 100 mΩ.

    Thanks,

    Jackson
