UCC21750-Q1: Query regarding SPICE File

Part Number: UCC21750-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC21750

We are using UCC21750-Q1 (https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/slum718) as a Gate Driver in our application and are running the simulations in Ansys for checking the EMI/EMC.

However, upon importing the SPICE model in Ansys, we are getting some error. Ansys has replied that the error is due to the content related to IXGA8N100 section in the spice file.

Could you please let me know which functionality of the Gate Driver IC will be affected if we decide to remove the above section from the SPICE file?

  • Hi Nishant,

That is just an example IGBT that you can use to simulate with this gate driver. You can absolutely remove it.

Alternatively, I am trying to replace that spice model with something more analog based. This .lib file is my first draft. Please also try it and offer feedback or suggestions:

    2161.UCC21750.lib

    Best regards,

    Sean

  • Hi Sean,

This is Asif from Nishant's team.

Thanks for your response and suggesting the alternative file.

Unfortunately, we could not get the expected output with the old IC model even after commenting the IXGA8N100 section.

We have also tried with the new file suggested by you. However, we are getting the below error in the Ansys circuit designer.
[info] Nexxim simulation will use local parameter scoping. To change this option, please go to Tools>Options>General Options>Circuit Design (02:51:12 PM Jan 19, 2024)

Could you please help us further?

  • Hi Asif,

I have not used Ansys before. I will try to work with you to resolve these errors, if it is indeed a SPICE simulator.

W1-3 are current controlled switches that I use to set the output saturation current limit. I have now replaced these with current controlled voltage sources and voltage controlled switches. Hopefully Ansys can support these compnents (H and S).

I am willing to work through these with you if you I can understand the nature of the errors.

    Best regards,

    Sean2727.UCC21750.lib

  • Hi Sean,

    Thanks for kind support.

Would you mind evaluating the suggested PSpice files in any of the PSpice compatible platforms for isolated gate driver application?

We are using this IC to generate a 65 kHz pulse (50 % duty ratio) with voltage levels at +15 V and -5 V.

Below are the observations for the 3 files suggested from your end:

    1. Model available on the website -> Commented IXGA8N100 -> Output: 0 V (Approx.) with a short transient of 2kV.

    2. 2161.UCC21750.lib -> Commented w1-3 subckts -> Output: periodic pulse with 65 kHz (50% duty ratio), however the voltage levels are not as expected.

    3. 2727.UCC21750.lib -> Output: 0 V (Approx.) with a short transient of 2kV

  • Can you send the waveform images? And the describe the simulation profile? Can you confirm with an image that it is correctly connected? I will try and replace that current-controlled switch (which limits output saturation current) with a resistor to see if that is the only thing preventing the model from working.

    Best regards,

    Sean

  • Hi Sean,

    Thanks for your kind support.

The 2727.UCC21750.lib model is working fine. I have referred the reference design and incorporated some changes accordingly.
