TPS40210EVM: 24.0-V output at up to 4A from a 28V input bus

Part Number: TPS40210EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS40210

Hello,

I am using EVM board EVMTPS40210EVM by 28VDCBattery Source. The TPS40210EVM (EVM) is boost converter providing fixed 24.0-V output at up to 2A from a 12V input bus.

Please suggest me How to converter this EVM Board 24.0-V output at up to 4A from a 28V input bus.

What is component change in this EVM Board.

Thanks & regards

Vishwanath

  • Hi Vishwanath,

Thank you for reaching out, regarding your query TPS40210 is a boost controller, how will it boost 28V to 24V output? if you apply 28V input voltage to a boost converter that gives Vout of 24V, it will just switch off the low side FET and the output would be Vin minus the diode drope off voltage.

  • Hi,

please suggest me which switch off the low side FET and the output would be Vin minus the diode drope off voltage by in circuit as per EVM Board

  • Hi Vishwanath,

Sorry i did not understand what you mean in your last message. In general if you want to go for higher ratings you would need to check the BOM of the EVM which you can find here on page 17. Make sure for capacitors you have some margin for the voltage rating of the capacitor and your operation voltage (28V Vin) and also make sure your inductor and FETs are ok with the current rating and voltage ratings. You can see what values of current and voltage you need to keep in mind by simulating your design on the power stage designer tool from TI https://www.ti.com/tool/POWERSTAGE-DESIGNER

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Vishwanath,

Thank you for your reply, I see.

For what components to change I would suggest looking at the BOM of the EVM and checking the input capacitors and their ratings if they are ok to be used, I would also check the inductor and FETs as well, as per my last message you should be able to see the BOM of the EVM in the user's guide of the EVM.

    Hope this helps.
