UCC21530: unused gate driver

Part Number: UCC21530
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC21551

There's only one gate driver of UCC21530 used. it means the other one gate drive is unused and needs to disable.

How to deal with unused INx pin VCCx and OUTx pin?

If unused gate driver is OUTB, could it be set as below picture? thanks.

Regards

  • Hi Brian,

Is am interested to know if there is a specific reason for using only one channel of a dual channel device?

Has there been consideration for using a single channel device? This would be a cheaper and simpler implementation than using one channel of a dual channel device.

If unused gate driver is OUTB, could it be set as below picture? thanks.

This connection for the channel B output side should be less susceptible to noise than leaving the pins open. There is definitely ground noise from the BUS-, but this should be less than the noise picked up by leaving the pins open.

For the INB pin, it is recommended to tie this to the primary side ground for mitigating noise.

  • Thanks. In the PFC stage of the PV system, 5 gate drivers are needed. and UCC21530 is a popular part and we'd like to promoting p2p one as UCC21551 to repalced old one. Thanks again.

So you suggested to leave VDDB, OUTB and VSSB open (no connection to grounding), correct?

    Regards

    Brian

  • I would recommend connecting to the secondary side ground. Leaving them open would most likely pick up more noise.
