LM4040-N: Query regarding the source voltage for shunt regulator

Part Number: LM4040-N

Hi,

The input voltage is 3.3V and trying to generate a 3V reference voltage for MC Vref.

Our 3.3V voltage range can vary +-5% that is from 3.135V to 3.465V.

Is it possible to use LM4040BIM3X-3.0/NOPB part for our application?

Regards

Vishnu

  • Hello Vishnu,

The LM4040BIM3X-3.0/NOPB will work in your application depending on the load current required. The LM4040BIM3X-3.0/NOPB requires a minimum operating current of Iq=67uA and has a max output current of 15mA. Rs must be selected so that (3.135V-3V)/Rs >= 67uA + IL and (3.465V-3V)/Rs =< 15mA. This gives a minimum resistance value of 31 ohms which means when Vs = 3.135V the maximum load current possible is 4.28mA with a 31 ohm input resistor. If less load current is needed, a larger resistor can be used up to 2k ohms when IL=0.

    Best,

    Walter
