TPS51396A: Regarding MODE Selection pin

Part Number: TPS51396A

What is the difference between ECO mode and OOA mode.  We are going to use this regulator for 6A load, for our application which mode is preferable and why?

  • Difference of these two modes are under light load,

Since 20 to 20K Hz could be heard by human, OOA(out of audio) mode limits the lowest frequency to >20k, which is used to prevent audio noise at light load.

ECO mode has no lowest frequency limitation, the frequency could be decreased to < hundreds of Hz, which could improve the light load efficiency. if you have efficiency reequipment you could choose Eco mode.

Both modes are same for heavy load.

  • Sorry, please explain me clearly, It is suitable for heavy load or light load.  And from your explanation I came to know this pin used to control the noise frequency .

  • Yes, ECO mode and OOA mode are only for light load.

You can simply think OOA mode is only for control the frequency higher than Audio noise frequency.

As I mentioned if you don't care about efficiency of light load. both mode are ok for you.
