TPS62903-Q1: The chip works abnormally in high temperature environment

Part Number: TPS62903-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62903,

Hi team,

When my board working in high temperature(RT=85℃),the temperature of the measured plate is 100℃ when it is stable.

I found that after running for half-hour, the PG output of the tps62903 is low and causes the following power supply to stop output, and the PG still does not output after re-powering.

When the board cooled down, the PG output of the tps62903 was powered on again and returned to normal, when the board temperature is 100℃, does the internal temperature of tps62903 exceed 125℃ and cannot work?

  • Hi,

May i check what's the application on your board? Vin-Vout-loading-Frequency ?

PG is low when the device is turned off due to EN, UVLO (undervoltage lockout), or thermal shutdown. If you can measure the EN ,Vo,Vin voltage, it would help to confirm whether it's OT or not ? You can also measure the IC top case temp if possible.

and the Thermal Shutdown Threshold specs as below, higher than 125C.

    Young

  • Hi Young,

The tps62903-q1 on my board is power supply 11.5V to 1V for the FPGA,the Fsw used by the board is 2.5MHz,the maximum current output is 3A.

It seems that the temperature of 100℃ is not enough to cause the chip to not work,so I am currently trying to determine whether this is an individual problem or a common problem.

  • Hi Suy,

Yes, if the IC temp is only 100C, it would not trigger OT protection.

Pls help capture the Vin,SW,VOUT,EN voltage when PG falling down, to check if it's related with EN/VIN UVLO, VOUT OV/UVP protection which may pull PG low.

let us know if any update here, and feel free to re-open this case if any further question.

    BRs,

    Young
