TPS7H1101A-SP: VOUT in Failed Load Scenarios

Part Number: TPS7H1101A-SP

Vout of TPS7H1101A is set to 3.3V using two resistors.  CS is enabled and current limit is set to 2.75A.  If a load at VOUT failed to 0.08ohms, what will Vout be?  If load shorted to GND, what is effect on the TPS7H1101A?

  • Hi,

If CS is above 0.544V to enable foldback current limit, then after the current limit set point is hit (2.75A in your case), the output current will be limited to half of the set current limit value (~50% of 2.75A = 1.375A) and VOUT would drop as needed to maintain the current limit based on the load and limited output current. In the case of a short to GND, VOUT will go to zero and the device will limit current as described earlier, but the power dissipation will likely cause it to quickly enter thermal shutdown.

    Thanks,

    Sarah
