TPS546D24: TPS546D24 output current reading

Part Number: TPS546D24

Hi,

I'm using in new version of my board  with TI TPS546D24.

We plan to replace to TPS546D24A on next assembly.

I have two devices working separate , mean each one is standalone.

I'm reading the output current from each and the reading does not make sense.

In one device the reading is +2.2Amp and on the other -2.19Amp.

I know the devices are working and it is not issue of software or I2C.

I'm reading for example the temperature from each, which using same data format, and it is correct.

Here are the registers results from READ_IOUT register ( internal address 0x8C )

First device: 0xC5CE = -2.19Amp

Second device:  0xC23A = +2.2Amp.

Here are the registers results from READ_TEMPERATURE_1 register ( internal address 0x8D )

First device: 0xDBA8 = 29.25 Cel.

Second device: 0xDBB2 = 29.56 Cel.

*temperature reading change when I heat or cold the devices.

There is no load on both devices , so I expecting very low current , about 100mAmp.

Q1:

Is this problem is because there is no current draw from the TPS546D24 , and it is fault ?

Q2:

Is there any need to program offset to the devices ?

Thanks,

Avi.

  • Hi Avi,

Could you please provide us the schematic, PCB layout, and programming settings? Is it possible the two converters are sharing the same output? If that's is the case, it could explain why one is showing a current of -2.19A and the other is showing +2.2A (almost identical, but inverted).

Other possibilities to consider include improper compensation leading to instability and issues related to improper grounding.

    Thank you,
    Tomoya
