UCC20225A-Q1: UCC20225AQNPLRQ1 VDDA short to VSSA

Part Number: UCC20225A-Q1

Hi team,

The customer have an issue with 1pcs gate driver UCC20225AQNPLRQ1 need your support : the pin VDDA of this driver has been shorted to VSSA, could you please help me to analysis this issue?

What could be the possible reasons?

  • Add some info:

This chip is used as class-D gate driver in Toyota ML16E product, and it is a removed chip from the board. I think this chip has been broken down in function debug and need your support to analysis it.

  • Hi Alan,

There are many reasons that can cause UCC20225A damage. Does the customer have any waveform when they observed this damage? What's their system condition, schematic, and/or layout?

The first things I would check would be whether their operating conditions fall inside the device absolute maximum ratings. Pay special attention to the output signal when the device gets damaged, and see if it has obvious overshoot/undershoot beyond the numbers listed on the absolute maximum ratings table.

Besides that, narrow pulse can potentially cause harm to the gate driver. You can take a look at this article here to learn more about the effect of narrow pulses.

To diagnose the issue, it would be very helpful if customer can provide us with any additional information.

Thanks and looking forward to hear back!

    Vivian
