BQ24074: BQ24074 - Charge Profile Question

Part Number: BQ24074

Hello,

Quick question on the charge profile

Whilst plotting the charging characteristics we noticed that the charge seams to turn on and off is this normal ?

Just trying to understand what and why

The voltage and temperatures are all well within limits

Regards

Steve

  • Hi Steve,

Upon review of the provided plots it appears in both instances the current is falling below 0A indicating the battery is discharging rather than charging. This behavior is likely supplement mode. 'Battery Supplement Mode' is described on page 22 of the datasheet.

On BQ24074 the system load is given priority over battery charging. If output current draw is more than input source can supply the battery will briefly discharge to support.

If you were to disconnect the load at OUT pin I would expect you to observe a steady charge current without the brief instances of charge current reduction and battery discharge.

    Best Regards,

    Garrett

  • Hi Garrett ,

    Thank you for the explanation.

I work for a compliance test lab this is a customer bit of equipment i was checking this is normal.

I have an idea what this could be.

    Regards

    Steve
