LM61430-Q1: Usage for 24V application (truck battery)

Part Number: LM61430-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM61430, , LMR38025-Q1

Hello Team,

As per the datasheet, LM61430-Q1 is recommended operating range is 36V Max. Truck battery voltage maximum is 32V. In this condition It is OK to use the LM61430 IC?

What kind of protection is required in Input side?.

With regards,

Karthick MANI

  • Hello Karthick,

The device can operate with Vin=32V. The absolute maximum rating of the device is 42V. If the input is larger than 42V, damage to the device may occur. Please note that 42V is outside the recommended operating conditions.

If you are expecting transients larger than 42V in your system, you may want to clamp the input voltage or choose a higher voltage device.

    Best regards,

  • Hello Ridge,

My input is coming from 24V battery (it is possible of ISO Pulses, Load dump and jump start). What is the your recommendation in VIN pin ?

  • Hello,

If you are expecting transients larger than the absolute maximum ratings of the device you will need to clamp the input voltage to an acceptable level for the buck converter. Alternatively, you can choose a higher voltage device such as the LMR38025-Q1: https://www.ti.com/product/LMR38025-Q1
