BQ24090: USB modem design for GSM module

Part Number: BQ24090
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25185, BQ24040, BQ25180

Hi,

if you could suggest the Li-ion/PO single cell battery charges, with capacity of max current =1A, but settable to 500mA or less for USB based application

Input DC voltage 4.75V to 5.5V DC

should have good thermal handling, charge status indication

Regards,

  • Hi AG,

We have a couple options based on the listed requirements:

    • BQ25185: standalone 1A linear charger with power path (QFN package)
    • BQ24040: standalone 1A linear charger, no power path (QFN package)
    • BQ25180: I2C controlled 1A linear charger with power path (CSP package)

    Best regards,

    Chloe

  • Hi Chole,

    thanks for reply

Does the chip with power path requirement can handle below requirement of GSM modem

Drop out voltage less than 300mV at peak current

expected peak current 2A with the burst of 577uS with interval of 4.61ms

  • Hi AG,

Yes they should both be able to handle up to 2.5A for less than 20 mS. With regards to the voltage drop, that's gonna be somewhat dependent SYS capacitance. The Ron of the bat fet is about 90 mOhms which is less than a 300 mV drop at 2 A so it should be able to handle SYS dropping less than 300 mV, but again that might be a bit more specific to your implementation.

    Best Regards.
