In earlier post few years ago Jim Slupe already posted a thread(USB Interface Adapter (SMBus) about Process Call section. Eventually I'm also facing the same issue. If I enter 0x7D01 for the data payload, it returns out and reports cmd code twice 0x7D7D.
The protocol is simply a Write Word followed by a Read Word without the Read-Word command field and the Write-Word STOP bit. Please find below snippet for reference.
