LM5123-Q1: as a drop in replacement for LM5123-Q1?

Part Number: LM5123-Q1

Hello. I have a design from TI Webench Power Designer using the LM51231. My input range is 9-22V and my output is 24V at 6A. However, that chip is out of stock. I would like to use the LM5123 as a drop in replacement, but the Webench doesn't allow for a design with >3A output (it doesn't seem to allow for higher amperage MOSFETs). Why is that? Will my design not work at 6A with the LM5123?

See my design here: webench.ti.com/.../SDP.cgi

Thank you!

  • Hello Alex,

Thanks for reaching out to us via e2e.

I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble with Webbench Power Designer.
Both parts should normally behave in the same way.
But I can imagine that some issue got fixed in one variant but not in the other one.

Definitely, both variants of the device can support 150W designs (6A@24V).
Our EVM can also handle that.

May I ask, why you would have chosen the LM51231 instead of the LM5123?
Does it provide any feature that you would need which the LM5123 does not offer?

For "regular" Boost applications I would recommend using the LM5123.

    Best regards
    Harry.
