UCC21739-Q1: Insulation capabilities

Part Number: UCC21739-Q1

Hello

I would like to obtain information about the isolation capabilities of the UCC21739-Q1. In the datasheet, it is stated "6kVpk surge immunity basic isolation". Can this isolation be considered as reinforced isolation? The component's clearance is 8 mm. I intend to use this component between two zones: a hazardous area and an accessible area for the client.

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Thang,

UCC21739Q1 has basic isolation. However in the same family, UCC21737Q device (pin-pin compatible) supports reinforced isolation.

https://www.ti.com/video/6146097520001 - this video talks about different isolation standards and its requirement. Hope it helps.

    Thanks

  • Hi Saslkala,

    Thank you for your response.

I am trying to optimize the choice of components in my application, in which the impulse voltage is 4kV (600V and OVC II). Considering that the impulse voltage for reinforced insulation is 6kV, I selected the UCC21739 component because its surge voltage is also 6kV, as indicated in the datasheet. What are your thoughts on my choice?

    Best regards,

    Thang

  • Hi Thang,

Yes UCC21739 does support 6KV of surge voltage per the datasheet spec. But its Max Isolation working voltage is only 900V DC or 636V Vrms.

As long as the end system requirement with margin is within the spec limit provided for Isolation working Voltage, Isolation Surge voltage need, then it can be used.

    Hope it helps.

    Thanks
