BQ79616EVM-021: BQ79616-Q1 can not wake up

Part Number: BQ79616EVM-021
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB2ANY

Hello,

I have an EVM board that I normally communicate with via USB2ANY and the GUI. I used to send a wakeup signal through the GUI, then communicate with the auto address. However, I can no longer communicate with the EVM board. Although it is connected successfully as a USB2ANY hardware, the LED of the IC does not light up after the wakeup signal, and there is no increase in current drawn from the power supply. The USB2ANY version is 3.1.1.14. Could you please advise me on how I can get the IC working again?

  • Hi Nazil,

As a sanity check, I just want to confirm a few things:

    - Was the DVDD LED lighting up previously? Were you previously successful in communicating with the device?

If the answer is yes to both questions, then below are my next questions:

    1) What voltage are you applying to PWR?  Can you confirm that LDOIN, AVDD, and CVDD are at their correct voltages for SHUTDOWN?

    2) Is the USB2ANY connected in the same direction as previously?

    3) Have any headers been changed since the last time you successfully powered the device? (i.e. J21 to power the digital isolator)

    Sincerely,

    Michelle W.

  • Hello Michelle,

Previously, the DVDD LED lighting was on successfully and I could communicate via the GUI with USB2ANY.

As mentioned in the user's guide, I connect the power to GND and then supply it via VSTACK. I was operating on another board with USB2ANY. I'm sure USB2ANY connected in the same direction as previously. Then I plugged it back in to use it on the EVM board and problems started to occur. I apply 48V from my power supply. When I check the current, the current draw in shutdown mode is seen as normal. There is no change in the current after clicking the wakeup button on the GUI. I did not do anything related to J21 on the EVM board.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Nazil,

My next suggestions for debugging are this:

    1) Ensure that LDOIN, AVDD, and CVDD are in the correct ranges when powered on in shutdown

    2) If possible, use an oscilloscope on RX to confirm that the USB2ANY is sending the wake ping correctly and that it's passing through the isolator correctly.

This will help narrow down what the issue might be.

    Sincerely,

    Michelle W.
