BQ25570EVM-206: A Drop-in, or "near" drop-in, replacement for the BQ25570 that is more compact?

Part Number: BQ25570EVM-206
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25570, BQ25505, BQ25504, BQ25185

The BQ25570 was launched more than a decade ago, correct? Despite how old it is, I really love how simple it is to use and also its functionality fits my application very well.

The only drawback of using it is that it takes up quite a lot of space on my board and—unfortunately for me—my application is space-constrained...

Would the well-versed component experts at TI please provide a few options (perhaps some more modern alternatives) that would take up substantially less space while not veering too far from the BQ25570 in terms of its purpose, operating specs, functionality, etc.?

Thank you in advance!

  • Hi Landon,

In terms of Energy Harvesting portfolio, all we currently offer are the BQ25504, BQ25505 and BQ25570 so there hasn't really been an update to the portfolio lately. Although this is something we may take a look at, there isn't any newer versions than the BQ25570.

In terms of solution size, the BQ25505 is very similar but doesn't have an integrated buck. If you don't need the additional buck then you can save on the solution space of the second inductor. The BQ25185 offers a small solution size for solar charging, however that's primarily for setups with higher input voltages since this is a linear step-down charger rather than a boost charger.
