BQ24171: Charging current of 125mA for a 3S lithium-ion battery

Part Number: BQ24171

Tool/software:

Hello experts,

I have a question regarding the use of the BQ24171 charge controller. I want to charge a 3S lithium-ion battery with a very low charging current of 125mA.

My questions are:

  • Is it possible to achieve a charging current of only 125mA for a 3S lithium-ion battery with the BQ24171?
  • Are there any specific issues or challenges I need to be aware of with this low charging current ?
  • If it is not possible to achieve this charging current , I would be very grateful for any recommendations or alternatives.

Thank you in advance for your expertise and help.

Best regards,
Johannes

  • Hi Johannes,

Yes, you can charge will low charge current but you must increase the size of the sense resistor SRP and SRN.  Otherwise, the accuracy of charge regulation will be poor.

Below is the reg accuracy spec has a function of voltage drop = ICHG*Rsns
