UCC27282: Low-side gate current path

Expert 1120 points
Part Number: UCC27282

Tool/software:

For 3-phase PMSM Motor Control Application (with single los-side shunt) I would like to use UCC27282 part.

However I am concerned with Low-Side Gate Drive current path.

The low-side return current goes not directly to GND but through Low-side shunt resistor to GND.

Will that can cause any problems?

Regards,

Adam

  • Hey Adam,

Thank you for reaching out to TI regarding your question with the UCC27282.

Having a shunt resistor in that path is acceptable and is one of the typical configurations that we see. That resistance value will slow down your bootstrap charging due to being in series with that path. So, if your duty cycle is very high, meaning you have very short LO pulses and short bootstrap charging time, you may want to consider revising this to allow for the bootstrap capacitor to charge fully during those cycles.
