LP5912-EP: EN pin developed a low impedance to GND pin

Part Number: LP5912-EP

Tool/software:

From one day to the next, the voltage regulator I was using developed a low impedance (16ohms) between pins 4 and 5 on the WSON package. As EN was also tied to the Vin, this caused the supply for the circuit to go into current compliance (gratefully) and fail to provide a high enough voltage for the regulator to provide 5V. With the regulator removed from the board, the impedance between the two pins still measures 16 ohms. Is this a known failure mode for this component?

  • Hi Mark,

This is not a known failure mode for this LDO and it is the first I've heard of it. I would review any possible abs max violations in the design.  Look at everything: power up, steady state, and power down.  Typically when devices fail in this manner, something outside of an abs max condition caused it to fail. I would also evaluate ESD and ESD handling as a possible failure mechanism.

    Thanks,

    Stephen
