BQ2980: Normal mode supply current is too large and the overcurrent in charge and discharge exceeds the set value.

Part Number: BQ2980

Tool/software:

Dear Sir/Ms.

Good day!

We used BQ298012RUGR on an e-cigarette project. We have encountered some problems and need your help.

1.The normal power supply current is too large. The maximum nominal current is 8uA. But no matter how much it is measured, the maximum is more than 60uA. If the current is too high, it will cause the standby power consumption to increase and affect the product's standby time. This is a problem we urgently need to solve now.

2.The overcurrent of charging and discharging is higher than the design value. Using a 1mΩ sense resistor, the charging overcurrent should be 4A, but it is actually 5.8A. The discharge overcurrent should be 14A, but it is actually 21A.

Attached are schematic and measurement pictures.

Please help to check. Thanks in advance.

Best regards.

Xidi

  • Hello Xidi,

I believe I may have been in contact with some of the people that also worked with this design, so we are looking into this.

I actually already have tested this on bench as well and I was never able to replicate such high-power consumption. I believe that someone will ship one of these boards to us so we can evaluate it.

    Best Regards,
