LM5185: If we have the product with more larger Vin

Part Number: LM5185

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

My customer (Anhui Ligoo) would like to ahieve an isolated power supply (DC-DC) that can meet the requirements as below:

Input voltage range: 35V-120V

Output power: 10W (5V/2A or 12V/1A)

Output ripple: <5%

Ioutmax:2A

Best regards!

Ethan

  • ok - search the TI reference design library here.

  • Hi Steve,

I can not find the recommended product in library, could you pls give me some suggestions? thanks.

  • Ethan,

If you attempt to search for exactly the parameters you need, you will greatly reduce the number of possibilities. Customer typically use reference designs as a "reference" that closely matched their requirement. If you can find an exact match to your requirements then great but not very likely.

One at a time, I enter the priorities as:

    1. Isolated: check the box
    2. VIN (min): Enter 48V because this is a popular telecom voltage that we know spans the range of 36V<VIN<72V
    3. VOUT (nominal): Enter 5V
    4. IOUT (max): Enter 2A

After each entry watch the number of designs that are found and if the number is too small, back off or change/modify your inputs to give a better result. Here is the parametric filtered result and you see some that are close but not specified up to 120V input so some components in the power stage may need to be reconsidered for 120V input.

LM5185 is not able to operate directly from 120V because VIN pin is only rated to 105V ABS MAX. You can still operate the LM5185 for 120V conversion, you would just need to bypass the VIN pin but if you were not able to take advantage of the internal startup, why not consider other PWM controllers?

    Regards,

    Steve

  • Hi Steve,

Thanks for your kind reply and suggestions! Do you have recommended PWM controller in below spec:

    1.Isolated

    2.Input voltage range: 35V-120V DC

    3. Output power: 10W DC (5V/2A or 12V/1A)

    4. Output ripple: <5%

    5. Ioutmax:2A

    Best regards!

  • Any single output 8-pin general purpose PWM can be used to design this low power flyback converter. A popular choice might be UCC28C54. Also, download and use TI Power Stage Designer to help understand different topologies including flyback and more.
