TPS2513A-Q1: Does iPhone 8 not support a charging current of 2.4A in TPS2513A-Q1 application?

Hello Jon,

The phone is able to determine what current mode it wants to select. An iPhone's behavior is dependent on the model, OS version installed, and cable used. For an Apple device to fast charge at 2.4A, the device must be in the divider 3 mode. Is the device applying 2.7V to the DP/DM pins? If the correct voltages are present, then the iPhone8 is choosing to draw less current. The TPS2513A-Q1 has advertised the correct option and the phone is selecting not to use the power offered.

Again, the TPS2513A-Q1 is detecting the divider device, which is why 2.7V can be measured on the DP/DM pins. If the device detected a BC1.2-compliant device, the TPS2513A-Q1 would enter shorted mode. And if the device detected a device compliant with the 1.2V/1.2V charging scheme, 1.2V would be measured on the DP/DM pins.

The TPS2513A-Q1 has advertised the correct option so this behavior is not due to this device. As mentioned, the phones are selecting not to use the power offered.

To check if the issue is due to the TPS2561 switch, connect an an E-load to the BUS and try drawing up to 3A and see when the device detects an overcurrent. If current can be drawn up to the configured current limit, then this behavior is not because of the switch either. It is because the phones are selecting not to use the power offered.
