LM5143A-Q1: Iout(max)

Part Number: LM5143A-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi I want to know about current mentioned Iout(max)=40A .Is this current is per channel or total current? Also for controller there is no current limitation, but what is the meaning of Iout(max) ?

  • Hi Pranjali,

Thank you for positing. The experts of this device are currently out of office. Let me try to answer you.

I studied the datasheet and also checked the reference designs, I believe the 40A max is for dual phase combined. You are right that there is not theoretical current limitation but there is an overall efficiency consideration.  The IC's MOSFET driver capability are not unlimited, implying the size of the power MOSFET is limited and it would to too lossy for higher power applications with a single LM5143A device.  Please refer to the LM(2)5143 quick start design calculator for power losses estimation.

    Thanks,

    Youhao
