BQ27621-G1: state of charge issue

Part Number: BQ27621-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, BQ27Z561, BQ27220

Tool/software:

Hello,

We are facing an issue with a battery powered device we are developing that utilizes a TI battery fuel gauge.

We are using a bq27621 fuel gauge together with a Li-Ion Battery. Right now we are using “Zero Configuration Usage" as described in SLUUAP5.
However, the SOC we are receiving is off by approximately 50% (see image). I followed the instructions “Simple Guide to Chemical ID Selection Tool (GPC)” to get a CHEM ID report. It shows that the ICs preprogrammed CHEM IDs are not suitable.

My Question is now:

  • To my understanding the RAM of the can be modified using the “CONFIG UDPATE MODE”
  • Can we enter custom configuration to support our battery using this mode?
  • How do we get those configuration data?
  • I read that it should be possible to get this data using the BQSTUDIO Software.

We need to know if it is possible to adapt this IC to our battery or if we have to change the IC.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
Jakob Frenzel
