BQ79616-Q1: Layout Considerations for stacking two AFEs and MCU on the same PCB

Part Number: BQ79616-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ79616

Tool/software:

Hey TI Experts,

We are stacking two BQ79616 AFEs on the same PCB along with MCU.

Hence, we are facing PCB Layout issues as we are having to violate the Layout guidelines mentioned in the AFE datasheet regarding the keep out area for daisy chain pins COMHP/HN & COMLP/LN. We are having the challenge of routing TX/RX pins to the MCU without intersecting the daisy chain lines.

Are there any design references/example or documentation provided by TI for the same to accommodate the two AFEs and MCU on the same board.

Request you to assist regarding the same.

Thanks & Regards

Ibrahim

  • Hello Ibrahim,

I don't know of a reference design where we implement two ICs on the same PCB for a system level design like yours.

I am curious why this would be an issue? You should only need to route RX and TX from the MCU to the bridge device whether that is a BQ79600 or a BQ79616.

Where is the issue in routing coming in?

    Best,

  • Hi Quentin,

We are not using the bridge device and hence are using UART for communication between AFE and MCU.

Therefore, when we implement the keep out area on the PCB as suggested in the layout guidelines for Daisy chain lines, it is difficult to route the RX and TX pins to the MCU without the Daisy chain lines getting in the way. Because, even routing the communication lines on other layers is also not suggested in the guidelines.

Would like your valuable response in the same.

    Thanks and Regards

  • Hello Mohammed,

May I see the portion of the layout that is in questions? Also if you could label some things so I can figure out what I am looking at that would be great.

    Best,
