LM5005: Generating negative supply from Buck converter

Part Number: LM5005

Tool/software:

I require -15V and +15V for my hall effect current sensor. I need to generate those from 24Vdc using a switcher IC. I found LM5005 buck converter IC to generate +15V but I cannot find in datasheet that it can be used to generate negative voltages also.

Will it be possible to generate -15V from this IC? Generally, by connecting output pin to ground one can generate negative voltage.

Also, please suggest if there are any alternate options.

Our main requirement is less component count and cost.

  • Hi Shivalee,

A buck regulator can be configured as an inverting buck-boost to produce a negative output voltage. Note that the  switch voltage is then Vin + Vout = 24V + 15V = 39V, so a 60V converter should suffice.
