USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01: For TPS25751D

Part Number: USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25750, TPS54531, BQ25792, TPS25751

Tool/software:

Hi,

1. USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01TPS25750 can replace by TPS25751D directly?

I found the pinout is the same. We already have USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01 want to know is possible to apply TPS25751D sample to replace old TPS25750.

The GUI also can co-use with old one? Anything I need to mentioned?

2. USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01 have a buck conveter TPS54531 to conveter 2~4S battery to 5V for PP_5V and Vconn power.

So in the 5V/3A PDO profile, it will provide by PP5V this path, right? Why in 5V PDO use case, not using BQ25792 conver to 5V/3A PDO?

3. In datasheet TPS25751 said need least 36kb EEPROM, but in TPS25751 EVM using 512kb EEPROM. We must need use to 512k?

Thanks!

  • Hi Jeff,

    Thank you for reaching out!

    1. Yes, that is correct. The TPS25751D is pin-to-pin compatible with the TPS25750, therefore, I don't see issues with replacing the IC on the USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01.

Please use the latest GUI for TPS25751: www.ti.com/.../USBCPD-APPLICATION-CUSTOMIZATION-TOOL

    2. This can be configured in Transmit Source Capabilities register to source PDO1 from PP3 (PPHV).

    3. You do not need to use a 512kb EEPROM. The datasheet recommendation is correct.

Please let me know if you have additional questions/concerns.

  • Hi Aya,

For question 2, So we can remove external 5V power source TPS54531?

In the figure 8-12, it seem need this 5V to provide Vconn power?

Also in USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01 design have a  TLV75533 LDO. If our system not sink only, it still need this 3V3 to TPS25751, right? thanks!

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

    • That is correct, the 5V power source is needed if your design requires VCONN.
    • Yes, VIN3V3 is needed. When VIN_3v3 power is unavailable and power is available on VBUS, it is referred to as the dead-battery start-up condition.
