BQ27441-G1: What is the need for the 10K pulldown resiston on BIN pin when battery removal detection isn't needed

Part Number: BQ27441-G1

Tool/software:

We have a very tight layout and are trying to determine whether the lack of a 10K pulldown on the BIN pin will have any adverse affects on the chip.

We don't need battery removal detection as it is a sealed product with battery solder to pcb.

  • Hi,

It is recommended to use a 10k pull down even if the pin is not being used.

How will you get your thermistor input?

    Regards,

    Evan

  • Ah, so you are saying it uses the temperature derived from thermistor for is calculation of the SOC.   It only mentions it as a mean to detect battery is connected or not. Which in our case is irrelevant as battery is not removable.

We do not need a thermistor pin on our batteries as the battery is directly on pcb, where we already have our own temp sensor - so can restrict charging when necessary.

Again why is it required - I see no reason

  • Hi,

The Thermistor is needed as a temperature input for the IT algorithm.

    Regards,

    Evan

  • Ah now I understand - thanks for your reply. I did wonder if the temp was used in the IT algorithm  - just it didn't mention it anywahere and only reffered to detecting battery removal.

Thankyou for your reply very helpful
