TPS54678: Usable life of device

Part Number: TPS54678
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS22965,

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

One of my customer wants data for usable life of TPS54678, TPS6522053 & TPS22965. How to calculate the same?

FIT rate is not the data we are looking for. Below estimator given on TI.com quality page is also not the data we are looking for. By claculating the MTBF lifetime coming out is very high which is not true representation.

  • Hi Mitesh,

What type of information are you looking for then?

The MTBF calculation is a standard calculation for the industry.

  • Chris,

If we calculate as per the given FIT rate for temperature of 125 Deg. C then lime time coming out as 88 Years for TPS54678RTER, do you think it is a true number? Do you believe there will be no electromigration related degradation happen in device?

88 years is too long at first cut. I have also shared the same data with customer but they again & again asking me the same data. As per them this is not a true number.

Infect they have asked for the multiple devices & some of them are DC to DC & hence asked in this forum.

    Pls. help with your response.

    Regards,

    Mitesh

  • Hi Mitesh,

It's actually higher than 88 years, if you use the FIT for the TPS54678, which is 0.1.  The 16.7 was just an example they use on that page.

Yes, this shows that electomigration is not the primary wearout mechanism for these devices.
