TPS22810-Q1: Connect Vin directly to car battery

Part Number: TPS22810-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS22810, TPS1H000-Q1, TPS4H160-Q1, TPS22919-Q1

Tool/software:

Can the Vin of TPS22810 be directly connected to car battery? We had issues before where devices rated 18v were damaged when directly connected to LIN bus.

  • Is TPS1H000-Q1 better option in this kind of application, ie, Vin from battery and Vout drive a load?

  • Looked a bit more. If for 5v and lower load switch, can use TPS22919-Q1? And if for 12v car battery multiple channel high side switch, can use TPS4H160-Q1? The load is ACC, REV, ILL detection/trigger wires for head units, which usually draw less than 0.2A current. I wonder if there is a lower cost one with lower current rating?

  • Hi Wei Xiao,

Connecting car battery to the load switch may result in damage due to transients/surges which are generated in automotive environment. As long as these surges are below the abs max of device (20V in this case), the device shouldn't get damage.

Is TPS1H000-Q1 better option in this kind of application, ie, Vin from battery and Vout drive a load?

Yes, High side switch are better option here than the load switch.

If for 5v and lower load switch, can use TPS22919-Q1?

Yes, this should be fine. Please do check for any abs max violation.

Regarding the high side switch recommendation, kindly create a new thread with high side switch part number. Thank you.

    Best Regards,
    Arush
