TPS65988: Dual port USB-C Power Delivery controller with DisplayPort Alt Mode

Hello Team,

We are going to develop a custom board based on TPS65988.
I's like to to ask whether if it possible to have the following configuration without having external MCU control or switches.

1) Port A (connect to smartphone USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode) :
as sink if Port B is not connected (get power and DisplayPort from smartphone to operate)
as source if Port B is connected for charging smartphone (get DisplayPort from smartphone)
2) Port B as sink only (get external power source)

Use Case 1: The device is powered from VBUS only, port A sinks, port B not connected
Use Case 2: The device is powered externally, both port A sources and B sinks

Can TPS65988 achieve the configuration above without MCU?
And is there any application note or reference design that i can refer to?

One more question, if my product needs to comply PD3.1, then TPS65988 cannot be used? as it is only support up to 20V.

This may be possible with an EEPROM which stores the configuration. Do you expect Port A to change dynamically (sink to source) after Port B is connected? For use case 2 does this mean that the supply of the Port A source is the external power? Does the power from port B ever supply port A?

(i) Yes, I expect Port A to charge dynamically (sink to source) after Port B is connected.
(ii) Yes, for use case 2, the supply of the Port A source is the external power. The power from port B ever supply port A and charging the smartphone.
I will check the discussion referred to get more understanding.

If PD3.1 needs to be complied, any solution suggestion for our port A and B use case?

Ok. This would require an mcu to recognize this state and tell the port controller to swap power roles.

At this time i do not have a dual port IC to offer. I would suggest looking at the TPS25751 and the TPS25730.
