Part Number: TPS65988
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25751

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

The customer uses TYPE-C port to provide power to the product Both ports can be used to source or sink power), and the USB PD Controller uses TPS65988. The customer has reported that some products cannot work properly (There are two types of adverse phenomena: 1. Failed to provide cable plug or direction detection at the USB Type-C connector; 2. The configuration template cannot be successfully loaded ), Please help to check what caused it. The attachment is a  schematic  of TPS65988. Thank you!

  • Hi Eric,

    Thank you for reaching out!

What is the end-equipment? Does this design require DisplayPort support?

    Best Regards,

    Aya Khedr

  • Dear Aya,

The terminal device is an instrument effect device and does not need to support DisplayPort. The schematic  of the power supply part of TPS65988 has been added to the attachment, Please help to review that. Thank you!

  • Hi Eric,

How far along in the design process is the customer? If they do not need DP alt mode, we strongly recommend they use the TPS25751. If they are aiming to get PD3.2 compliance, the TPS65988 will not be able to support this and they would need to swap to two TPS25751D ICs.

Regarding the TPS65988 issue, can you provide the .pjt used?

Is the config template loading issue happening every time, or every once in awhile? Is there internal power at VIN3V3? how are you booting the system.

Regarding the "Failed Cable Plug", how is this being tested, what is the expected behavior, and what is the frequency of failure?

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris
