TPS2541 100mA or 500mA in SDP mode

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2540, TPS2541, TPS2541A, TPS2540A

Hi!

I have a question concerning the SDP-mode of the TPS2540/TPS2541/TPS2540A/TPS2541A, assuming a device that does not support special charging protocols like divider mode etc.

When I do not connect any USB-host behind this device that can perform any power-negotiation, a USB-spec-conform device will only draw 100mA. Is this correct?

How is the easiest way to implement something, that I can also assure 500mA for SDP-mode? Is the negociation for getting 500mA device-class dependent? Are therefore device-specific drivers needed? Or is there a general way to implement this negotiation in a host or something else?

I do not have a concrete device in mind, that should be supported, but I want to design USB-conform and want to give 500mA to everybody, and more if the device supports divider mode or so.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Sincerly yours,

Gustav
