Voltage Restriction on the LMZ12008

Has anybody tried pushing the output voltage up on the LMZ 12008? 

I am currently running one at 8.45V @ 6A and it seems to be running just fine (12V input). 

Will I run into problems over the long term?

Is there a limit?  (everywhere I read it says 6V, but it can do more)

  • Correction I am running at 8.45V at 3.72A  or 32 Watts.

    You can run the part over 6Vout.  The reason it was not put on the datasheet is because

    1)  The inductor ripple current starts to become quite large and leads to higher output voltage ripple.

    2) At around 10V-12V the error amplifier output will hit a clamp so that it is not able to supply the full load current.

     

    We have a part coming out in a few months the LMZ23608H which has a larger inductance to lower the inductor ripple current , and adjusts the clamp on the error amplifier to allow higher output voltages at full load.

  • Thanks for the info, I have almost zero ripple at 8V and 4 Amps.  The part stays nice and cool.  I am working this part into the design.  Good to know there are more parts like this coming out.  I am using it to run a series of Thermoelectric coolers and this does a real nice job.
