What is the Pin 11 of UC3823 used for?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UC3823, UC3823A

Hi,

On the datasheet of uc3823, the description of current limit reference (pin 11) is very short and followed by 'consult specifications for details'. What is the function of pin 11 of uc3823?  I saw a circuit connect pin 11 to voltage reference (pin 16), what is this about?

  • very good question,

you can simply get the answer looking at the newer version (UC3823A): there are always 2 comparators that monitor the current; when the 1st one is engaged, device enters in current limit mode; when the 2nd is engaged, device triggers a fault and reset the SS pin, "rebooting" itself.

now in UC3823 only 1 threshold is set, the other is programmable by user (pin 11), while in UC3823A all the thresholds are embedded, an there is no need for such pin anymore.

  • Hi, thanks for your answer. Please forgive that I take so long to response, there is a problem occured in my email setting and I didn't receive reminder about your reply.

I got a question about your mentioned UC3823A. According to the datasheets, UC3823N is different with UC3823A. The UC3823A has two output and I think it has same function with UC3825AN in which each output maximum PWM is about 45%. However, the UC3823N has only one output pin and maximum output PWM is about 90%.

I hope you could help me with this confusion.
