Hello people.

I have a DC/DC aplication where the currente demand is very very high.

The minimum input voltage is 8V and maximum is 32V.

The maximum load charge is 4V at 60A.

I would use the TPS40140 in multiphase mode, however i have any doubts.

The TPS40140 part can work smoothly on a 5V power? The power stage will operate at 24V nominal.

The base architecture is described in the page 57 of document below:

I can use this architecture or exist a best solution for my application.

Hi Davenir,

TPS40140 can work on a 5Voutput. But you have to seperate Vin of the power stage and VDD of controller. Because VDD of TPS40140 is max 15V. You can use at least 2xTPS40140 for 5V/60A application. Attached is reference design for your reference. You may order an EVM to test the thermal performance per your application. To finalise our topic.

The TPS40140 can operate with VDD controller of 5Vcc?

Already have a 5Vdc source on my system. I want using the same source of my system to powering the TPS40140 , however, directly linking this source at pin VREG (21). Not using the VDD pin (17). It possible this configuration? Or she it not is recommendable?

Hi Davenir,

Yes, TPS40140 can operate with VDD of 5V. You will be fine as long as this 5V source is always higher than 4.5V. But you could not connect this 5V to VREG PIN 21 since VREG pin is the output pin. You need to connect this 5V to VDD pin 17 and connect 5V to BOOTx to instaed of VREG for MOSFET driver. I attached the 5Vin reference design and test results here for your reference.
