TPS62143 (fixed 5V) external components

The TPS62140 datasheet suggests that fixed output versions such as the TPS62143 only require 3 external components, but all given layouts indicate at least 5 components.

I assume CIN, COUT and L1 must be mandatory and CSS and RPG would be optional. By leaving out CSS and RPG, what negative effects might I encounter?

    You are correct.  Cin, Cout, and L are required while Css and Rpg are optional.

    Page 17 in the D/S explains how the SS/TR pin may be connected without a Css.  I recommend using a Css for some soft start time but it is not absolutely required.  Additionally, it can be a very small cap, so it takes up very little space.

    The PG pull-up resistor is not required if you do not need to use the PG function/pin.
