TPS62242 / TPS62243 feed-forward caps

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62243, TPS62242, TPS62740, TPS62230, TPS62240

Hello TI,

The TPS62242 / TPS62243 seem to be amongst TI's most efficient sub 30mA 3V3 to 1V8 and 1V2 DC-DC converters.

1. Is feed-forward compensation (capacitor C1) incorporated internally in these fixed output voltage parts, or how should this be handled, if recommended for 0.1mA - 25mA output currents?

2. Are you perhaps aware of any more efficient TI parts in the output current category 0.1mA - 25mA?

  • You can use the fixed voltage devices just as shown in the D/S--without any FB components.  The compensation is completely internal to realize a stable design.

If you want best efficiency, then be sure and don't overlook our brand new TPS62740.

Another family to look at, which is smaller and newer than the TPS62240, is the TPS62230 family.

  • Hello Chris, thank you for the 'FB' - and the good alternate part suggestions. The new TPS62740 is great! Is TI going to offer a 1.2Vout capable version as well to cover the TPS62242 (I see that the TPS62741 will go down to 1.3Vout)?

I notice that the TPS62740 datasheet offers two different variations for the thermal pad (pg. 30 vs. pg. 32). Which is the correct one?

The TPS62740 seems to be slightly outdone for efficiency by the TPS62243 above 1-2mA (@3.3Vin & 1.8Vout). A 0.9V to 2.4Vout version of the TPS62740 would be very compelling, though...

  • The first thermal pad drawing is correct.  The D/S should be updated shortly.
