TPS2513A vs TPS2513

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2513, TPS2513A

Hello,

TPS2513 supports dedicated charging port Auto detect mode, DCP Divider 1(5 W) and Divider 2(10W). TPS2513A supports dedicated charging port Divider mode 3(12W).

My questions are:-

1)      I have a 5V 5A transformer and if I select TPS2513A(12W) then it will draw 2.4A which is sufficient to charge one new I-pad. If I plug-in another I-pad, then both I-pads will be charged with 2.4 Amp or 1.2 Amp?

2)      TPS2513A supports only Divider mode 3(12W). So is it possible to charge I-phone because I-phone charges with 5W charger or is it possible to charge i-pad (2.1A) which require 10W charger?

Any help in this is appreciated.

Thanks,

Chetan

  • 1), TPS2513 is a dual channle USB charging port controller, both channel support divider 3. Assume your design is a dual port application, when plug in 2 ipad, bogh pads will be charged with 2.4 Amp. In addition, please note the charging current is sensitive with the USB output voltage.

    2) TPS2513A support most of apple device including iphone, it like iPad 4 (12w) charger, also can support iPhone charging, the charging ID (mode) is backward compatible.

  • Hi Milo Zhu,

    Thanks for your support.

That means TPS2513 supports all 3 modes(5W, 10W & 12W). Please correct me if my understanding is wrong.
Suppose I plug-in Android phone(700 mA) in one port and iPad(2.1 A) in another port, then please confirm that both devices will be auto detected with their required charging current. Am I Correct?

    Thanks,

    Chetan

  • TPS2513A only integrated 12W mode (D+=2.7v, D-=2.7v), the charging mode is backword compatibile with most of 5W/10W device.

Regarding your second question, it is correct. Becaseu TPS2513A's dual controller are seperate.

  • Hi Milo Zhu,

    Thanks for your quick response.

Only one doubt is that in above post you mention about TPS2513A. So is it TPS2513A or TPS2513? Because I want to use TPS2513 for all three modes(5W, 10W & 12W).

    Thanks again.

    Thanks,

    Chetan

  • Sorry for the confusing. TPS2513A integrate 12 W charging ID (D+/D-=2.7V/2.7V), TPS2513 integrate 10 W charging ID (D+=2.7V/D-=2.0V). The difference is, when you plug in iPad, the charing current with TPS2513A would have around 200~300mA upgrade compared with TP2513. If you want to maximize using your power, recommend TPS2513A (support newest charging ID).

  • Hi Milo Zhu,

Thanks for your support. As per your suggestion i will use TPS2513A which will charge all the devices (700mA, 1A, 2.1A & 2.4A). Is my understanding correct?

    Thanks,

    Chetan
