LM1117 / Thermal shutdown temperature, TSD

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV1117LV, LM1117, TLV1171

Hi everyone,

Please let me know the thermal shutdown temperature of LM1117. I suppose that it should be 165degC (increasing) and 145degC (decreasing) which is specified at similar devices such as TLV1117LV and TLV1171.

Best Regards,

Sonoki / Japan Disty

  • Hi Sonoki,

The datasheet does not give a specific value for thermal shutdown temp, though, I would expect it to be above the absolute maximum thermal limit of the device itself. For this reason, I would not recommend operating the device until it reaches thermal shutdown, as this may reduce the life of the device if done often. Thermal shutdown is there to provide immediate protection if necessary. I recommend you design the system to keep the junction temp below the absolute maximum ratings of the device.
