Inverting regulator

Hello,

I am looking for a inverting regulator with internal switch that can deliver -14.5 V / 250 mA from a +5 V supply. 

At a first analysis, the LM2611A can be used for this purpose, but there is not much information of this part on the TI and the Webbench tool seems to not suport this part. Is this part suited for a new desgin?

  • The LM2611 will not be able to support a 250mA load current under these conditions.

    I would look at using a buck converter as an inverting buck boost.  Here is a link to an application note on how to accomplish this.

    There are several parts you could use.

    With -14.5Vout and 5V you will have 19.5V of stress on the part.  You could use the LMR12015.  This would give you a nice compact layout and provide enough current.  If you want a part with more headroom on the voltage requirement then you would pick a  higher voltage part.

  • The LMR12015 is interesting but I want to avoid the WSON package.I would prefer something not so compact like the LM2611.

    Also, the 250 mA are on the limit for the LM2611, that is true, but it seems that are no more options for this inverting converter...

  • If you want a part with a leaded package.  You can use the LM3103 which comes in a tssop or the LM27341 which comes in an MSOP.  These both come in leaded package options.

    I don't think we have a high current version of the 2611, although you could turn one of our low-side controllers into a cuk but this will be more complex.
