TPS2543-Q1 connection with iPad

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2543

Q1

When IPad is connected with CDP mode, what kind of handshake do TPS2543 perform?

Because IPad does not support BC1.2, how do TPS2543 perform a handshake for charge?

Q2

I use DCDC converter of 1.5A for Vbus, now.

The charge electric currents of IPad exceed 2A.

Even if IPad is connected, can it be charged from 1.5A or less?

  • Sato-san,

A: iPad 4, air and mini already support BC1.2 CDP.

A: TPS2543 configured as CDP, right? If like this, the upstream should connect PC as USB host, and the max charging current only up to 1.5A, so 1.5A upstream DCDC is ok. If configured as DCP_Auto, max charging current maybe up to 2.1A, if like this, iPad would try to pull out 2.1A, so DCDC would into over current.
