Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ77910A

Dear TI support,

We are designing a circuit using a BQ77910A.
In the data sheet sluu855, spark gap has been described. Since we want to design a spark gap as ESD protection, Could you tell me the layout of the gap?

  • You might do a web search for spark gaps and their design.  Typically you want to have an exposed gap of ~ 10 mil although spacing may vary.  Be sure to check with your board fabricator since etching can alter the dimensions and the performance.  Also check with your assembly shop since the gaps can be a defect opportunity.  Also be aware that board layout can create unexpected spark gaps between closely spaced components unless a coating is used. If a coating is used on the board, do not coat your spark gaps.
