Battery Management solution with BQ24618, BQ77908A & BQ34Z100

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24618, BQ77908A, BQ78350, BQ34Z100, BQ76930

Hello All,

I’m new to the battery sector and I want to design a battery management system for an RC-car. The car is powered from two LiPo batteries, one 6s and one 4s cells.

I have already put my ideas down in a scheme you can find attached. I want to use two independent systems for both batteries and each system is consisting from three main parts: charging, protection and fuel gauge. Due to easier circuit design I would like to use the same integrated components for both systems. I already picked out some IC’s which will meet my requirements.

At this point I have got some general/specific questions:

1. Do you have any concerns or suggestions regarding my battery management in general?

2. BQ24618 specific: When the charger supplies the system with energy from the adapter is it necessary that adapter and system voltage are at the same level or is the charger able to minimize a higher adapter voltage to a lower system voltage?

3. Why is BQ77908A no longer recommended for new designs? Can’t I use it just as a prototype board?

4. Can I use the BQ78350 and BQ76930 as full replacements for BQ77908A and BQ34Z100?

I really would appreciate it if you  can answer some of my questions!

Thanks,

Stefan
