PTH12000W parts case Temp 110℃

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PTH12000W

Hello

I am using PTH12000WAH.
There is a question.

Although it is used on the following conditions,
the temperature of the parts carried in the module has reached 110℃.
Is this OK? In OK, please teach me a reason.

Vin:12V
Vout:5V
Iout:3.25A
Ambient air temperature:40℃
Case temperature of Parts :110℃(Attachment data )

 Thank you。

  • Hello Masazumi:

PTH12000WAH and PTH12000W series operating with 12Vin and 5Vout at 3.25Amps load thermal  conditions are normal with 40°C ambient temperature measured within 0.5cm of the power inductor inductor temperature is about 100°C.

The published SOA / thermal derating data applies when the PTH12000W is soldered into  100mm x100mm PCB double sided 1 ounce copper pads.See the SOA data.
The reported 110°C on the power inductor and 2 power FETS correlates to the published thermal  data  50-53°C operating ambient air temperature as measured within 0.5cm inductor.

  • Hello

    Thank you for the reply.
There is a question by addition.

To what times is the maximum temperature of the case temperature of FET and an inductor OK?

    Thank you

  • Masazumi:

Th absolute maximum derated case temperature limit on the power inductor an power FETS is 130°C.
