14-cell LiIon Polymer battery management application request for suggestions

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76930, BQ78350-R1, TCAN334, BQ78350, BQ76200, BQ77PL900, BQ76PL536

Hello:

I am trying to design a battery management system for a Lithium Ion polymer 14 cell pack (7S2P).

I am considering the TI bq76930 and bq78350-R1 pair for each series set of cells.

I’m also looking to use an MSP430 to serve as an interpreter between a CAN transceiver, TCAN334, and the SMBus of the bq78350.

The pack will not include controls/management for charging. Charging will be managed externally to the pack.

Each cell has a maximum discharge rage of 9600mA and a capacity of 5000mAh

Since the pack has 7 cells in series, the choice of BMS devices narrows considerably, I believe that just leaves the bq76930, correct?

I do not have any flexibility on the cell configuration for this design.

Are there other better TI solutions that would be a fit for this application?

Are there any other questions I should be asking?

Do you have any further suggestions for this application and is this a good solution for this application?

The design will certainly need some FETs and other ICs and I’m open to any other TI solutions for other sockets in this design.

Any feedback or input is welcomed and appreciated!

Thanks again!

Paul
